Heritage Foundation's Education Freedom Report Card: States Leading a School Choice Revolution
The Heritage Foundation recently released its Education Freedom Report Card, ranking states based on their commitment to school choice and parental empowerment.
The report highlights how states are stepping up to provide families with more control over their children’s education, as traditional public schools continue to underperform despite significant increases in spending. Heritage emphasizes that educational freedom is key to improving student outcomes and ensuring parents have options. The article states:
"K-12 spending has quadrupled since 1960, with no meaningful academic gains."
The Education Freedom Report Card recognizes states like Arizona and Florida for leading the way in school choice, allowing parents to direct education funding through Education Savings Accounts (ESAs). With 17 states now offering similar programs, these options enable parents to choose private schools or customize their children’s education in ways that meet individual needs. The Heritage Foundation adds:
"Parents of accountholders can use their child’s portion of the education funding formula to choose a private school for their child or customize their child’s education with a variety of learning products and services."
As more states climb the ranks in education freedom, the future of school choice continues to expand, offering hope for families seeking alternatives to the status quo.
